This one was just me playing around with PhotoFiltre (still can't get GIMP to run properly on Vista) and see what I came up with. The drawing tools are pretty primitive in that program - it is designed primarily for photo editing after all - but it's still possible to come up with some interesting stuff using simple shapes and playing with different filters.

Something a bit different this time - I've just designed the front cover for my forthcoming book, Lord of the Things. It is of course a parody of J R R Tolkein's classic book, Lord of the Rings. Wasn't aiming for anything particular here, just kept playing with different effects until I liked how it looked. When I got to this stage, it really reminded me of the scene in TRON where Jeff Bridges is being sucked into the digital world. So I stopped editing it and posted it!

Well it's kind of a face, and kind of cosmic, so I call it... cosmic face... (GIMP does have some rather cool gradient flares...)

As with yesterday's image I started off by creating a plasma fill, then played around with it a bit, added a difference cloud and final ran a very low intensity fractal trace on it. I quite like the result.

Just playing around with gradient fill brush effects and some of the filters (particularly oil painting), and came up with this.

I deliberately did this one in greyscales, using a gradient airbrush with jittering, then applying a radial motion blur and finally embossing. The result almost looks kind of like an arial view of a Roman ampitheatre.

Doodles using a custom brush with texture fills in between, mapped onto a cylinder. The result could be some sort of vase produced by a secret society involved with snakes in an adventure game, perhaps? Broken Sword 5 or Indiana Jones and the Secret Snake Society of Siberia?!?!?!?!

Doodles re-rendered with a factal trace and a lamp effect which makes it look a bit 3D.

More fractal fun with added spirograph goodness. Doesn't really work too well because it just looks like one image overaid onto another... but couldn't get a good opacity level for this pic.

Hi folks, starting yet another blog, just posting some odd graphical experiemtns as I come up with them. If anyone for any bizarrre reason wants to use any of these graphics please feel free, but a link to this blog would be appreciated.

Most if not all of these images will have been created using GIMP, the excellent freeware graphics creation / manipulation package.
